6 – Mineral exploration in the Dragoons (1995)

In fall 1995, CRC commented on mineral exploration in Jordan Canyon in the northern Dragoon Mountains. Major points, which we raised, concerned revegetation plans and potential impact on archaeological sites.

Forest Service archaeologist Bill Gillespie discovered a new archaeological site along a new road route, which was needed to reach one of the drill sites. Kennecott Exploration Company had to reroute their proposed road.

After the exploratory drilling was completed, Kennecott cleaned up and seeded the drill sites and the temporary road. The company had no further interest in mining in the area.
